My Dear Baby sister.  We just recd. your card and the picture. So you have a nice little baby boy that you were awful smartg to pull a trick like that and never tell  us any thing.  I certainly was surprised.

When Ray came in and gave me the car. I couldn't help but boohoo he said well, why the tears ?  Arn't you tickeled?  And I couldn't for the life of lme tell why I was crying.  Unless it was because I knew we girls always have such a hard time at child birth.   How did you stand it?  You were surely very brave to try it.  I am so glad its all over and I hope and pray you are O. K.  by now.  You have something none of us girls could ever posess a baby boy.

Wish ours had been boys one of them any way.  We have a real grandson tho. the twins are awful cute and just about perfect in every way.  They are going away soon.  To work,  He works  on the road again this summer.  I always dread to see them go.  So many things could happen to them.  Vivian drives sometimes to and I am afraid she's a bit careless. Makes me so uneasy all the time they are  gone.  The mountain roads scare me  to pieces.  Of course they are the very best of hi ways.  Tho with the awful hi mountains on one side and a drop over  on the other side of five hundred feet into the columbia river well it sure works on my nerves.

Helen was home Easter.  She brought a deaf girl home wiht her. They had a big time.  The girl could hear better then Helen. You know Helen has 60%  hearing loss in each ear.  Poor kid.  Tho she is so sweet and every body loves her.

Well how is the weather?  We've had so much rain lately tho.  Today is a beautiful day.  And fruit trees in bloom and so many flowers. It looks like a beautiful world. Tho in the war zone over there things don't look so wonderful tho.  we cnat think of that too much.  Can we.  Well I must quit and go up town.  I have some plants to take to a lady.  A dear little lady, her husband is helpless.  had a stroke and has been that way for some time.  Thank you so much Ola for sending  the S.M.D. Im going to subscribe for it before long. So sad to hear of so many of our  dear friends passing on. Tho its a prise we've all get to pay.

Sometime Ray is much better.  Of his asthma tho I cant see his heart is any better.  He still is on his raw diet of vegetables and fruit.  And has reduced so much.  of course that is good for the heart.  He has gained strenght too.  He also eats Honey all the time never any sugar.  doesnt eat salt or milk on account of hardening of arteries and hi blood pressure.  We ll must quit for sure this time.  Love and ever good wish. And Congratulations double.  Bet pappa Nolan is walking on air.  and how are grandpa and billy.

Helen please write soon and let us know how you are getting along.  Did you go to the Hospital?
Love tons from

Mabel and Ray

My own Dear Sis & all:
Well Sis. We just Recd. the sad news about your darling baby.  Ola you don't know how my heart aches for your all.  Maud told me how sweet & pretty he was.  & how you all loved him. He was too precious a little jewel to stay in this wicked world.  You know his little soul is in Heaven. Jesus says: Suffer little children to come unto me, forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of Heaven.  He is so much better off.  Bless his little heart.  He is safe in the arms of Jesus. Tho its so hard to give them up.

You know Ola I have also grieved I worried so about Helen's deafness and I would think some times it would have been better if she hadn't ever lived to go thru life deaf.  It is a terrible handicap poor kid. Then I think again how much better it is that she's deaf.  Instead of being blind.  At Salem they have a large school for the blind they learn with raised letters and every thing. They do wonderful work, I fancy work. And so many things some of them you can hardly tell they are blind they do wonderful work at the school for the deaf also. So many of them are deaf and disturbed of course Helen talks as good as any one. She hears a little too. She belongs to girls scouts and they go on picnics and have fine times. Sometimes they go to Mt. Hood: She can go on to school two lmore years if she wants to they teach some Hi-school work there.

How do you feel Ola? Hope you are getting stronger all the time and will soon be up. Tho you must be awful careful for a long time untill you get your strength back. I havent felt so well for about a month tho I feel some better. Have been making garden. I get some nerve med. from the Dr. and its helping. Ray feels better tho he just dont have much strength. Cant do anything. His heart is in an awful shape. Well I must quit How is my dear daddy? Oh how I wish I lived close so I could come and take care of you until you are strong and well again.

Good by my dear for now.
 Love so much
Mabel
