Stories: Guy moved from Jetmore, Kansas with his family to Burchriver until he was about seven
years old. Then he moved to Gillette in 1916 until he was adult.
Guy was a normal actve boy whaile he was growing up. He would sit on the roof of the house to go the edge of the
roof and launch himself onto the tall stilts and then walk through the dump to stir up the rattle snakes which would bite
at the stilts.

Guy was a good mechanic, and at one time built a car engine from the ground up and one occassion after buying
a car he decided he would convert the vehicle from a manual transmition to an automatic transmition.
Though his schooling was limited, he was not a ignorant individual by any means. One of the stories I remember most
is when he interviewed for a position to opporate heavy equipment on a construction site. He assured the employer that
he was able to run the equipment. After being hired on to start the next day, he returned that evening after everyone
left the construction site and practiced running the equipment until he knew he was ready. He must have succeeded,
he was in construction running all types of heavy equipment for over 52 years.

Guy lived in or around Alton, Mo. in 1933 and was working as a mail man. He would deliver mail and would daily pass
Vivians school. Now being that Guy was six years older than her, Vivians dad did not take kindly to her hanging around
Guy. But like most teenagers she was also stubbern and would ride with him while he delivered mail, pretty much safe
from Ray's knowledge. Except that one day Guy and Vivian missed a turn and became late getting Vivian home, and from
that point on Ray did not like Guy at all.
Though the picture on the left shows Guy working at a "Port", or docks, I have not heard any stories that say what he
did or even how long.

Guy and Vivian moved around a lot and they lived in a trailer for most of their newly wed time and even a few years after
the twins were born with Gene and Genny. From 1937 to 1945 Guy worked on the State oiling crew and lived in almost every town
in Oregon.

After awhile, Guy and Vivian set down roots and purchased property first in Portland, OR in 1952 on Marine Drive. Then
to Gladstone, and then in Oregon city. Guy was not only remembered for his mechanical skills, but also for his sense
of humor. There were many times in all of our lives "as parents" that we tell kids over and over to do something, but
just when Guy had had enough, he would come up with some story that would trick us into doing what we should. For example:
Guy had a basment, and one day he got tired of telling us to go back upstairs soooo... instead, he screems "Ahhhhhh!
Rats run, run!" and then chases us back upstairs. Quickly he shuts the door behind him and pants...saying they almost
got us."

Guy's hobbies: He loved to tinker. He would build things, fix things. Usually
better than the material around it would last. For example: His back door needed some fixing... so he pulls
out 6" long bolts and screwed them into the door and it was fixed. Many years later the door rotted away,
but those bolts were still doing the job they were assigned to do.
He also liked to make the grandkids toys. Either using cans or wood he would make us stilts. The cans, he would
tie a string through the can leaving the string long enough for us to hold onto to lift the can as we walked. Or the
regular wooden stilts if we were really good at it.
Guy also loved music. I know that he played the accordian at one point. and definatly the acustic guitar... expecially
using a beer bottle running it up and down the strings to make a cool twangy sound.
